Just In: Roger Federer gives advice to Cruz Hewitt with teen ‘close’ to icon’s daughter
Roger Federer has issued a stern warning to the son of fellow tennis ace Lleyton Hewitt, who is believed to be close friends with his twin daughters. It comes after reports that Cruz Hewitt had even been considering a move to Switzerland to further his career.
Federer is the father of Myla, 17, and her twin sister Charlene, with the two girls having been spotted with Cruz. That included at the Australian Open in January, when Cruz, also 17, was photographed in the stands with the duo.
But Cruz, a budding tennis star in his own right, is said to have been given words of wisdom by the 20-time Grand Slam champion. As per New Idea magazine, an insider recently revealed: “Roger truly believes Cruz has got the potential to go all the way in the years ahead.
“And it’s a two-way street, everyone knows how much respect Cruz has for Roger and that he looks up to him alongside his dad as a true legend of the game, if not the undisputed GOAT.”
The source added: “The pressure can be enormous, Roger’s candid about that. Even with all his success, Roger would have done certain things a little differently. He’s humble enough to share those guidelines with Cruz, he sees him as a true superstar in the making.
“But he’s not sugarcoating some of his advice, as he truly believes that sacrifices are the name of the game. For all the talent in the world, Cruz is going to need to grit his teeth and buckle down if he wants to get to the top and stay there.”
It’s claimed that Federer is firmly in the youngster’s corner, and has warned him about distractions that could derail his progress. Cruz continues to catch the eye with his performances, and his current ranking is a career high of 354th.
Just last month Cruz was pictured with Federer’s daughter Myla, as the two cosied up while watching the US Open in New York. Meanwhile, Cruz greeted the two twins ahead of the junior boys’ Wimbledon final earlier this summer.
On Cruz’s kinship with the twins, an insider told Woman’s Day: “It makes sense that they would at least be mates. Cruz has always been close to Myla and her twin.”
