BREAKING: Emma Raducanu suffers brutal rankings drop in double blow for injured Brit
Emma Raducanu’s ranking has taken another hit as she continues to recover from a stress fracture in her leg. The Brit has been sidelined for more than two months, missing Wimbledon and the WTA 1000 events in Canada and Cincinnati, and she has already ruled herself out of the upcoming US Open.
Raducanu reached the third round of the Cincinnati Open last year, narrowly losing to world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in a final set tiebreak. But by missing the tournament this year, she has lost 65 ranking points, tumbling further down the rankings.
Not only has she fallen nine places to No. 68 in the world, but Raducanu has suffered another blow this week, as she has lost the British No. 1 position and been overtaken by Katie Boulter.
The 30-year-old jumped up 11 places to No. 60 this week after reaching the second round of the Cincinnati Open, where she lost to Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova. Boulter had been on a five-match losing streak before beating Katie Volynets in Cincinnati. Her last win before that had been at Queen’s in June.
While Boulter has found some form again, Raducanu will only slip further down the rankings once the US Open is over. The 2021 champion in Flushing Meadows reached the third round last year, losing to Elena Rybakina, and earned 130 points for her efforts.
Depending on other results at the upcoming US Open, Raducanu could well be outside of the top 80 come the end of the tournament. It’s not known when the former world No. 10 will return to competition, but she has not been named in Britain’s squad for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals from September 22 to 27.
The Kent local has had a brutal year, as a foot injury cut her 2025 season short and affected her pre-season preparations. Raducanu then split from her coach, Francisco Roig, following the Australian Open in January.
She reached the Transylvania Open final – her first final since winning the 2021 US Open – in February, but picked up an illness and spent two months sidelined between Indian Wells and the WTA 500 event in Strasbourg.
Raducanu lost back-to-back matches on the clay in Strasbourg and Roland Garros upon her return, but rediscovered her best form on the grass courts of London’s Queen’s Club. However, due to rain delays, the Brit had to play three matches in two days to reach the final, and picked up a lower leg niggle.
This developed into a stress fracture and forced her to withdraw from Wimbledon on the eve of the tournament. Raducanu has not played since.
