“This Was Unacceptable!” — Tennis Fans Erupt in Fury as Daniil Medvedev Loses Control, Kicks the Backboard, Smashes His Racket and Knocks Over Microphones During a Brutal Cincinnati Open Defeat to Brandon Nakashima
Daniil Medvedev’s Cincinnati Open campaign came to an end in a dramatic fashion after a match of missed opportunities saw his emotions run high during a shocking loss to Brandon Nakashima in the third round. The Russian tennis player dominated the first set after winning the tiebreak 7-3.
At 4-5 in the second set, Nakashima was serving to stay in the match. However, Medvedev fell short of winning three match points, losing the second set. With a stunning comeback in the second set, Nakashima gained his rhythm in the deciding set and comfortably won the match 6-7(3), 7-6(4), 6-1 to reach the fourth round of the Cincinnati Open.
With the match slipping from his fingers, Medvedev’s frustration became very vocal. In one of the moments, he was seen lashing his racket into the LED boards.
After he missed one of Nakashima’s serves, Medvedev smashed the ball and hit his foot on the screen
A moment before Nakashima’s winning game, Medvedev was also seen knocking over both the microphones placed at the end of the court with his feet.
Nakashima will next face Nuno Borges, who saw off Andrey Rublev in straight sets. The American tennis player is competing at a career-high No. 22. He also advanced to his first Masters 1000 final in Montreal last week.
