BREAKING: Emma Raducanu heartbroken as ex-boyfriend’s mother and Dior exec Mathilde Favier dies in tragic accident
Emma Raducanu mourned the demise of Mathilde Favier, who served as Dior’s Director of Public Relations. On Tuesday, Dior shared a post on Instagram to announce the “accidental death” of Favier.
The 2021 US Open champion offered her condolences by sharing the post on her Instagram story, captioning it with a white heart and a flying bird emoji.
According to reports, Emma Raducanu was in a relationship with Favier’s son Carlo Agostinelli. They started dating around May 2023, and their love story went public at Paris Fashion Week that September. However, they broke up in 2024 after enduring a rough year together.
French outlet Le Monde on Monday reported that Favier, 57, was travelling with her boyfriend and film director Nicolas Altmayer in France. The couple’s vehicle collided with a truck coming from the other side.
Saddened by Favier’s death in a tragic accident, Delphine Arnault, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Christian Dior Couture, mourned the loss of a “loyal friend.”
“Mathilde loved life with a passion. With the passing of Mathilde, Dior is losing an incredible professional, and I have lost a loyal friend. Her optimism and courage commanded admiration. We will sorely miss her smile and her talent. I feel deeply saddened today; my thoughts are very much with her children, her mother, her sisters, her family, her many friends and her team she loved so much,” Delphine Arnault said.
Favier joined Dior in 2011 after working with Prada. During her stint, she worked with high-profile clients including Natalie Portman, Rihanna and Jennifer Lawrence.
Emma Raducanu withdraws from the 2026 US Open
On the tennis front, Emma Raducanu has endured a turbulent period throughout this year. She has missed a host of tournaments due to injuries and the after-effects of a virus. The 23-year-old has secured just 11 wins this year, which further reflects her woes.
During the buildup to the tournament, Raducanu sustained a stress fracture in her lower right leg, which ruled her out of the tournament. She appeared on crutches days before The Championships kicked off. Eventually, she withdrew from the tournament hours before her campaign opener against Antonia Ruzic.
“I can’t believe I’m saying this, but sadly I’ve had to withdraw from this year’s Wimbledon. I’ve done everything possible to try to get to the start line tomorrow but after a final scan tonight, the niggle I’ve been managing has developed into a stress fracture and I’ve been medically advised to stop pushing through. Playing at Wimbledon, in front of a home crowd, means everything to me, so this is really difficult to process,” the Briton posted on her Instagram Story.
Emma Raducanu then took a trip to Switzerland, engaged in leisure activities, and was even spotted practising on the court with a cast on her leg. Speculation was mounting about her potential absence from Flushing Meadows after she missed the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Masters.
She has opted to take a cautious approach and skip the US Open for the second time since lifting the silverware in 2021. In 2023, Emma Raducanu underwent surgeries on both wrists and one ankle, which forced her out of the season, including the US Open.
