‘I’m Letting My Family Down’ – Bianca Andreescu Breaks Down in Tears as She Makes a Brutally Honest Admission After Her First-Round Exit at the Canadian Open
Bianca Andreescu competed in front of her home crowd at the National Bank Open in Toronto after receiving a wild card as a former 2019 champion. The Canadian tennis player started strongly with a 5-2 lead in the first set.
However, she couldn’t convert the three set points as Nikola Bartunkova staged a stunning comeback to win the first set 7-5. The Czech player then dominated the second set 6-4, forcing Andreescu out of the tournament in the first round. In a press conference after the match, the former World No. 4 admitted that the loss was heartbreaking.
She said that she couldn’t understand when her game started to fall apart. In an emotional confession, Andreescu admitted that she often feels like she is letting her family and fans down, especially after receiving a wildcard.
I don’t know, sometimes it’s tough. Like, I get so many opportunities with wildcards, and I obviously want to do really well, yes, here, but also any opportunity I get a wildcard. It’s tough. I feel like maybe it’s true, maybe it’s not, but I feel like I’m letting, you know, my team down, my family down sometimes, the supporters. Yeah, like it’s, there’s a lot that goes into it, and I’m very much an over thinker, but that’s what I’m working on. I mean, that’s why I do so much meditation and all that stuff. Sometimes it just gets the best of you, and today it definitely did.
Bianca Andreescu has also been awarded a wildcard to compete in the doubles event alongside Kayla Cross.

Bianca Andreescu won the Canadian Open in 2019 and reached her career-high ranking of World No.4. As she received the wildcard to compete at the latest edition, the Canadian highlighted that her approach has changed, according to Temple Tennis. She said in the interview that she is no longer trying to be the player she was in 2019 and wants to grow as the person she is today.
Along with the Canadian Open, Bianca Andreescu also clinched the Indian Wells, Toronto tournament, and US Open titles in 2019.
