BREAKING NEWS: Katie Boulter Makes Shocking ‘Divorce’ Comment Just 16 Days After Marrying Alex de Minaur
Katie Boulter has made a tongue-in-cheek joke about getting a divorce from new husband Alex de Minaur just days after tying the knot. The two got married in an intimate church ceremony in Old Woodhouse, Leicestershire, near the village of Woodhouse Eaves, where Boulter grew up.
The tennis power couple arrived at the church in a black Porsche Carrera, driven by De Minaur, with his bride as his passenger. According to a family insider, only family members attended the wedding as celebrations continued in a nearby pub.
But no sooner had they confirmed their marriage than Boulter jokingly flirted with the idea of getting a divorce. It came following the announcement of this year’s US Open mixed doubles event, with some of the biggest stars in tennis included in the line-up.
Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka have paired up, while runners-up from last year, Casper Ruud and Iga Swiatek, are once again partnering each other. Neither Boulter nor De Minaur were named in the line-up, but that didn’t stop them from having a laugh together on social media.
Posting on Instagram in response to the US Open announcement, Boulter said: “@alexdeminaur wanna play mixed with your wife?”
To which the Aussie replied: “@katiecboulter sorry I’m already set… [eyes emoji and smiling emoji].
Boulter, unimpressed with her partner’s response, said: “@alexdeminaur divorce.”
Jokes aside, De Minaur reflected warmly on his wedding with Boulter, saying: “It was an amazing time. [It was] everything we could have ever imagined.
“It was like our own little movie. We were able to celebrate with family and friends and have a very small honeymoon, which consisted of two days. Then we’re on a flight here to Washington and getting our heads screwed back on and back to being tennis players.”
On the return to competition, he added: “The way the season works, we’re back to work, right? We’re back to being tennis players. That being said, I don’t think much has changed for me being married. I think same old-same old. I’m definitely very excited to get going.”
De Minaur landed the Washington Open title last year, beating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in a remarkable final 12 months ago. He’ll be looking to defend that win this time around, before the final Grand Slam of the year at Flushing Meadows next month.
