King Charles’s Jealousy of Princess Diana Is So Different From His Relationship With…

King Charles’s contentious relationship with the late Princess Diana is well-known now, with everything from infidelity to jealousy marking their time together. But according to royal experts, Charles learned from his past to ensure that his time with Queen Camilla is markedly different from his first marriage. After seeing how her popularity eclipsed his own as soon as she entered the spotlight, Charles was reportedly seething with jealousy. These days, he’s shifted to being “proud” of his wife and insiders say that the public has taken notice, as well, turning their perspective on Camilla and beginning to embrace her more and more.

I think that whereas Charles was rather jealous of Diana’s success, he could not be more proud of Camilla, who has come to this role late in life and without the safety net of an adoring public,” former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told The Mirror. “These difficult few months will have made his love even deeper.

This year especially, as the royal family faces a barrage of health-related issues, Camilla has stepped up and been more active in the public eye. As Charles continues his cancer treatments, Camilla has taken on more and more appointments and many see her as capable of steering the U.K. as her husband takes time to rest.

It’s safe to say that the last seven months have seen her grow into her role better than anyone could have ever hoped for,” The Mirror explained. “Once regarded as one of the most unpopular members of the royal family due to her relationship with King Charles while he was still married to Princess Diana, since tying the knot with the monarch in 2005, her popularity has steadily risen year on year.

Camilla is taking it all in stride and, according to those close to her, enjoying the uptick in royal engagements and appointments.

“I think she might have surprised herself by enjoying hard work as much as she seems to be doing,” Bond added. “She is, after all, a woman who has never had to knuckle down to the slog of a 9-to-5 job. She has shouldered a sharply increased workload and a massive amount of responsibility in the past few months, and is looking and sounding great on it.”
