BREAKING: King Charles’s ‘hot equerry’ makes exciting announcement – and fans will be disappointed
One of King Charles’s most trusted staff members has welcomed his first child with his wife Olivia, it has been revealed. Lieutenant Colonel Jonny Thompson, who is often referred to as the “hot equerry” by royal fans, has welcomed a baby girl named Theodora on May 20, 2026. The name derives from Greek and is said to mean “gift from God”.
The happy news was announced on the Times’s births, deaths and marriages page on Wednesday and read: “THOMPSON on 20th May 2026 to Olivia (née Lewis) and Lieutenant Colonel Jonny, a daughter, Theodora.” The new arrival comes around a year after the happy couple married. No photographs of the new baby have been shared online.
But the news may not be welcomed by royal fans, who love seeing him at royal engagements, as he’s likely to go on paternity leave for a few weeks so he won’t be seen alongside the King.
The happy family news comes after Jonny, whose role in the Royal Household is King Charles’s equerry, was spotted a few times in the royal spotlight over the last month.
One of these times was just weeks ago, when King Charles was on a royal tour in the US, which Jonny accompanied him to.
Jonny was also seen earlier this month at the Royal Windsor Horse Show, where he sat with the King’s niece Lady Louise Windsor.
Jonny is a member of the 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland.
He previously worked as the late Queen’s most senior bodyguard and has since become a Super Equerry to King Charles, which makes him one of the most trusted members of royal staff
This role involves the planning and execution of the monarch’s daily duties, and accompanying them on trips and engagements.
While Jonny is the King’s equerry, he has reduced the amount of public-facing duties he is part of over the last few years as a result of unwanted attention by members of the public.
This is because royal fans tend to swoon over Jonny, referring to him online as the “hot equerry”.
However, he is still seen at big royal events and important outings.
