Travis Kelce again snubs Harry and Megan after encounter with Prince William
Travis Kelce seemingly passed up an opportunity to meet Prince Harry by choosing not to attend the ESPY Awards. Reports suggest that Kelce was invited to the prestigious event where his team, the Kansas City Chiefs, was nominated for the Best Team award.
However, ESPN did not list him as one of the guests before the show, and he indeed chose not to attend.
His teammate Patrick Mahomes also decided to skip the event, despite being named Best Athlete in Men’s Sports. The award was collected by head coach Andy Reid while Mahomes’ mother, Randi, and sister, Mia Randall, attended on his behalf.
They had the opportunity to mingle with royalty, taking a picture with Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle. Kelce’s decision to skip the event at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles meant he missed out on meeting Prince Harry, just weeks after meeting his older brother, Prince William. Kelce and William had a great time together at his girlfriend Taylor Swift’s concert in London.
On his ‘New Heights’ podcast, Kelce spoke about his encounter with Prince William: “Dude, he [Prince William] was the coolest mother ——. He was awesome. He was so cool. I didn’t realise this because obviously we were backstage meeting him because he was there with little George and Charlotte, and they were an absolute delight to meet.
wasn’t sure if I was supposed to like bow to them, curtsy, just be an American idiot and shake their hand. But they said that because we weren’t at like an official royal event, we didn’t need to bow or curtsy. If it would have been like an official meeting of royalty event, then it would have been that. But I did still address him as Your Royal Highness.”
Kelce captured the moment with a selfie alongside William and his two eldest kids, Charlotte and George, at the concert on June 21. Swift took to social media, posting: “Happy Bday M8! London shows are off to a splendid start.”
The Prince and Princess of Wales shared their own sentiments, tweeting: “Thank you Taylor Swift for a great evening! #LondonTSTheErastour.”
Despite the buzz, Kelce and Harry did not cross paths, even though Harry was there to receive the Pat Tillman Award for Service. A source previously hinted to The Sun about the potential interaction: “It could be interesting given how much Travis hit it off with William.
Travis is like the most sociable, happy go lucky, kind person in any room and is sure to want to say hello to the Prince and interact with the Sussexes. That is his style, and honestly he is one of the biggest names in US sport.
“For Harry it could be a potentially awkward encounter given that Travis spoke so warmly about and praised William. This will make headlines no matter what happens. If Harry ducks Travis that would look weird and if they chat the question will be whether they discussed William.”
Ultimately, the two stars never encountered each other, but Kelce was mentioned during the ceremony. During her opening monologue, host Serena Williams quipped about the year’s sports highlights: “Patrick Mahomes and Taylor Swift’s boyfriend won a Super Bowl.”
