King Charles reportedly left Queen Camilla in tears with a worrying nine-word statement during their trip to Australia, leaving her “terrified” for her husband’s wellbeing.
The Royal couple visited the country and also traveled to Samoa for a summit with Commonwealth leaders.
The tour has been celebrated as a significant success and a public relations win for the monarchy. Charles, who will be 76 next month, is apparently gearing up for a full return to international duties next year, even though he is still undergoing cancer treatment.
However, friends of the Queen, aged 77, are expressing concern about the toll this is taking on her. It’s said that his comment at the end of the Samoa summit, “I hope that I survive long enough to come back,” deeply affected her, as reported by Daily Beast.
Sources claim Camilla had an “emotional reaction”, alternating between laughter and tears. She is reportedly worried that her husband is hastening back to a regular work routine before completing his cancer therapy.
Although the remark caught the attention of many, Palace officials have refuted the idea that Charles was hinting at a ‘final goodbye’. He addressed the meeting saying: “I shall always remain devoted to this part of the world and hope that I survive long enough to come back again and see you.”
Yet, a confidant of Camilla remarked: “It was a strange thing to say, and I think Camilla had an emotional reaction. Of course it would. She is terrified.”
The source disclosed: “They have had a horrendous year. Now with this return to work, she is understandably fearful her husband is rushing it. She just wants him to slow down and prioritize his health.”
While Camilla spent a week alone prior to the Australia trip at a secluded retreat in India, reports have implied she felt “unsettled” during the time in Australia and Samoa. It was previously reported that Charles’s medics were caught off-guard by briefings claiming 2025 would be business as usual for the King’s engagements.
Defying medical advice, Charles halted his cancer treatments for the duration of the 11-day journey and has decided not to attend the forthcoming Cop29 event in Baku next month. Insiders indicate that any resurgence into full Royal duties hinges on what his physicians recommend, yet an insider relayed to the Sunday Times: “We’re now working on a pretty normal-looking, full overseas tour program for next year.”
