GB News host Martin Daubney has shared an emotional reflection on Princess Catherine’s cancer journey, revealing how her September video message continues to move him to tears.
Speaking on his GB News show, Martin recalled watching the princess’s update in real-time during the programme.
I was moved to tears, and I’m close to tears again now,” he admitted.
The presenter emphasised how the video highlighted the importance of life’s simple moments, such as playing cards with children and embracing loved ones.
added: “It is still as powerful today as the day it came out. What it taught us about the Royal Family, and what it taught all of us, is that the small things are so important. Playing cards with the children, hugging your children, running your hand through grass, just being around your loved ones and not taking life for granted.
“And as we approach Christmas, those messages are as pertinent as ever, aren’t they?”
Martin praised the way the public was invited to share in the princess’s “painful” journey.
He stated: “What was also so special about it was the way that the public was invited into this painful journey, this discovery, and the empathy with everybody else, any other ordinary citizen who’d been through a similar testing circumstance.
Out of that absolute darkness, in a sense, we became stronger. We bonded better with the Royal Family, and it was a journey that we all shared,” he reflected.
Speaking to GB News, R]royal biographer Ian Lloyd also highlighted how Catherine’s openness marks a significant shift in royal communications.
“It was startling, and it also reflected a different approach by the Royal Family, because the Royal Family I grew up with would never have talked about anything like that,” Lloyd explained.
He added: “It was mentioned in five continents… quite often front page news in Italy, Spain, Portugal, all of these countries carried it, because it had a global impact.
“And it reflected well, I think, on Catherine and the Royal Family. And I think it really highlighted what they were going through.
Lloyd also shared insights about the King’s upcoming Christmas speech, where the monarch is expected to acknowledge the “difficult year” faced by both himself and Catherine.
Lloyd told GB News: “He’s going to talk about wider things such as community cohesion, about the troubled year for the United Kingdom, about the murders and riots and things like that – it’s not going to totally reflect on the Royal Family.
“I think they’re both looking forward to next year, they can start afresh and hopefully they’ll all be able to undertake tours abroad.
“The King’s going to Italy at some point in the spring, so it’s going to hopefully be revived, and there’s a period of positivity for the Royal Family next year.
