Kate Middleton was ‘nervous and shaking’ during tense interview with Prince William
Kate Middleton had to be supported by Prince William as she was overcome with nerves during a very important interview.
The pair first met while at university and developed a strong friendship before they started dating. In Nov. 2010, Kate and William delighted fans when they announced their engagement.
The Prince and Princess of Wales gave a joint interview from the State Apartments at St James’ Palace following the announcement. Royal photographer Arthur Edwards has recalled just how nervous Kate actually was as she showed off her ring.
Edwards said the Princess of Wales was so nervous that her hand was shaking as he tried to get a close-up shot of her sapphire ring. William had to step in and hold Kate’s hand to steady it.
She was so nervous, her hand was shaking. He had to hold her hand steady so I could photograph it,” Edwards recalled, shared via Instagram account @uk_royal_follower.
During the engagement interview, William opened up about the ring he used to propose. “It’s very special, as Kate is very special. It’s my way of making sure my mother didn’t miss out on today and the excitement,” he said. Kate’s engagement ring once belonged to William’s late mom Princess Diana.
The Princess of Wales was also asked how she felt about joining the royal family. “It’s obviously nerve-wracking because I don’t know what I’m doing – I sort of don’t know the ropes really,” she admitted.
However, Kate said she was ready to “work hard,” prompting William to add, “She’ll do really well.” He was also seen giving Kate’s knee a gentle squeeze to calm her nerves.
The moment didn’t go unnoticed by fans and they took to TikTok to gush over the sweet moment. “I love how he helped her and the fact that touch is their reassurance. So in tune with each other,” one person commented on the resurfaced video.
Another said, “You can tell she was nervous, but Will let her handle the question and stepped in at the end to calm her nerves. She did great. I would’ve been a mess knowing millions will see the interview.”
