Princess Kate’s dad gives five-word verdict on Prince William after propo…

It has been 14 years since it was announced by the Royal Family that Prince William and Princess Kate were engaged and set to marry.

The proposal, believed to have happened in October 2010, came nine years after the couple first met while studying at St Andrews University in Scotland.
Although Prince William said at the time he did not ask Michael Middleton, Princess Kate’s father, for permission to marry his daughter out of fear of what he would say, both Kate’s parents seemed delighted by the news.

Soon after it was announced, the princess’ dad Michael Middleton and her mum Carole Middleton stepped out of their Berkshire home to give a statement about the proposal.

Michael issued a five-word verdict on Prince William while talking to the press shortly after the news was announced, declaring “we all think he’s wonderful.

Mr Middleton said at the time on behalf of Kate’s family: “I would just like to say that Carole and I are absolutely delighted by today’s announcement and thrilled at the prospect of a wedding some time next year.

As you know Catherine and Prince William have been going out together for quite a number of years which is great for us because we’ve got to know William really well.

“We all think he’s wonderful and we are extremely fond of him.

“They make a lovely couple, they’re great fun to be with and we’ve had a lot of laughs together. We wish them every happiness for the future.

Prince William proposed to Princess Kate during a trip to Kenya with friends.

The couple stayed at a lodge at Lake Rutundu when he popped the big question.

Although the princess said the proposal came as a “total shock”, William said they had discussed marriage before after dating for around eight years.

They married around six months after the proposal at Westminster Abbey in April 2011.
