‘Tense’ Prince William is ‘protective’ over Kate Middleton as she returns to crucial…
Prince William seemed “tense and alert” as he accompanied his wife Kate Middleton to her first major royal event since she completed her cancer treatment, according to a body language expert.
The Prince and Princess of Wales joined King Charles and other members of the royal family at the annual Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Saturday night. The event, which is hosted each year by the Royal British Legion, aims to honor servicemen and women.
Kate looked incredible as she wore an elegant black dress and silver necklace. During the Festival of Remembrance, William was seen putting a comforting arm around his wife, and body language expert Darren Stanton believes he might have been on edge.
Stanton said: “Where Kate is seen clapping alongside William, his body language differs from hers. He seems more tense and alert, whereas Kate appears far more relaxed and has a calm aura about her.”
The expert continued: “In William’s face we can slightly see this tension, which is quite unusual for him. It’s a protective instinct from him, but he isn’t overbearing, he allows Kate to have her own space and present herself independently.”
Stanton suggested Kate and William share a connection and the ability to “know what the other is thinking and what they want”. He explained: “We see this in their eye contact and it’s reflective of the strong rapport they have. They look at each other for a prolonged period, say eight or nine seconds, which people tend to do only with romantic partners or family members they share a close bond with.”
He then pointed to subtle gestures both William and Kate use to show their support for one another. “The pair are subtly tactile, their closeness is demonstrated in little touches, she may touch his elbow, he may touch her arm – it’s reassurance gestures to show they are there for each other,” Stanton said.
The Festival of Remembrance takes place every year on the Saturday evening of Remembrance weekend. Kate’s appearance at the event was announced on Friday in a statement shared by Buckingham Palace.
Queen Camilla was forced to miss the event due to a chest infection. She also missed out on attending the Sunday Cenotaph service.
A spokesperson from the Palace explained: “Following doctors’ guidance to ensure a full recovery from a seasonal chest infection, and to protect others from any potential risk, Her Majesty will not attend this weekend’s Remembrance events. While this is a source of great disappointment to The Queen, she will mark the occasion privately at home and hopes to return to public duties early next week.”
It is understood there is no cause for concern and no downturn in her condition. With health precautions in mind, the Queen is aiming to prevent transmitting any residual infection.
