Kate Middleton and Prince William have ‘surprised everyone’ with life-changing decision

Kate Middleton and Prince William always prioritize their three children and made a surprising decision about their future.

Despite the responsibilities that come with being the future King and Queen, they are hands-on parents who even do the school run themselves, instead of relying on staff. Their commitment to their children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – is well-known, but their move to Windsor “surprised everyone,” according to a royal expert.

In 2022, the Wales family left their London home in Kensington Palace for the more modest Adelaide Cottage. The move was reportedly motivated by a desire to be closer to the late Queen Elizabeth.

Adelaide Cottage also offers more privacy and space for William and Kate’s children to live normal lives. The four-bedroom property doesn’t accommodate live-in staff, so the family has the whole place to themselves, with some staff coming in during the day to assist.

I think they surprised a lot of people when they moved there,” royal expert Duncan Larcombe told OK! Magazine. “There are plenty of other places they could have moved to, but Adelaide Cottage fits with their desire as parents to be a normal family, where there aren’t servants and they don’t have 30 rooms. William would much rather have his kids around him, in the rooms next door to where he’s sleeping.”

Royal expert Katie Nicholl added, “They are very, very happy there. Being able to live in the middle of Windsor Home Park, where they’re not overlooked and can come and go in complete privacy, makes the downsize from Kensington Palace worth it on every level.”

She continued, “There’s not a huge amount of space, but Adelaide Cottage ticks all the right boxes.” The property was originally built for Queen Adelaide in 1831 and it was once a favorite haunt of Queen Victoria for enjoying her tea.

And while the Wales family have switched up London for the countryside, they’ve clung on to their flat at Kensington Palace. They also regularly take trips to their Norfolk residence, Anmer Hall, during the school holidays.
