Breaking News: Kensington Palace makes exciting Prince William announcement
Kensington Palace has announced that Prince William has appeared in a new project with former Lioness, Jill Scott, to mark the 100th anniversary of the charity, Fields in Trust.
The Prince of Wales, who is President of the charity, joined forces with the football star to champion the importance of local parks and green spaces as part of its centenary year celebrations.
The clip, which was filmed earlier this year, reflects on the charity’s 100 years of protecting the nation’s parks, playing fields, playgrounds and pitches, while highlighting the urgent need to safeguard these vital community spaces for future generations.
Filmed at the Windlesham Field of Remembrance in Surrey, William and Jill can be seen walking through the area and meeting local park users. They speak about the important role green spaces play in supporting health, wellbeing and community connection.
Throughout their conversation, the pair reflect on how green spaces, parks and playing fields have played a pivotal role in their own lives and why the charity’s mission remains as crucial today as it was when the organisation was founded in 1925.
The duo are also seen getting involved in coaching a football match with students from a local school.
A passionate advocate for the environment and the founder of the Earthshot Prize, William talks about the permanence of green space loss and the critical work Fields in Trust has undertaken for generations. He says: “Having access to fresh air, a bit of peace and quiet, greenery, is so good for our minds and bodies. You need to have that space.
The Prince continues: “You need to have that in as many communities as you can. The family connection with Fields in Trust goes way back, a hundred years. The green space protection part is really important, because once a green space goes, it’s gone forever….What Fields in Trust have done for many years is make sure that everyone has somewhere as amazing as this on their doorstep.”
Jill goes on to reflect not only on her own childhood, but on the experiences of families who rely on their parks on a daily basis. Recalling how her local pitch in Sunderland transformed her life and launched a football career, Jill said: “A lot of my childhood was just going to the local park playing football…. without green spaces, I probably would never have gone on to kind of play football at any level”.
The former Lioness went on to add: “I remember chatting to a small boy who said, ‘if they take away my park, they take away my morning with my dad.
