source close to the Duchess of Sussex criticised the Duke of York for his response to claims made in the bombshell BBC documentary aired last Saturday. According to a friend of Meghan, 38, Prince Andrew’s answer left those watching wanting to “curl under a table” and claimed the hour-long interview just continued to get “worse”. A source close to Meghan told the Telegraph: “The interview left everyone watching it wanting to curl under a table.
It just got worse and worse and worse.
The Duke has repeatedly denied allegations he slept with a 17-year-old girl linked with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
The Duke also faced widespread criticism for showing a lack of empathy towards Mr Epstein’s victims and a lack of remorse over his friendship with the financier.
Mr Epstein, 66, took his own life in prison in August while awaiting trial on sex trafficking and conspiracy charges.
Following the documentary a number of businesses, charities and universities begin to cut ties with the Duke.
On Wednesday, Prince Andrew announced he would be stepping down from public duty for the “foreseeable future”.
In a statement released by Buckingham Palace, the Duke said: “It has become clear to me over the last few days that the circumstances relating to my former association with Jeffrey Epstein has become a major disruption to my family’s work.
Therefore, I have asked Her Majesty if I may step back from public duties for the foreseeable future, and she has given her permission.
“Of course, I am willing to help any appropriate law enforcement agency with their investigations, if required.”
The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) announced on Friday it would be cutting ties with the Duke after 15 years.
In a statement, an RPO spokesman said: “Following HRH the Duke of York’s announcement that he will be stepping back from public life, management representatives of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) met with Prince Andrew’s office on Thursday afternoon.
At a subsequent meeting of the RPO board, it was decided that the orchestra should part company with its patron, with immediate effect.
“The RPO would like to express its gratitude to His Royal Highness for his support of the orchestra over the past 15 years.”
The English National Ballet also reportedly severed ties, accepting Andrew’s resignation from his role as patron.
Huddersfield University confirmed the Duke has stepped down from his role as its chancellor after four years.
In a statement, the university said: “Due to the circumstances and in discussion with the university, he has decided to step down immediately to allow the university to appoint a successor.
“HRH The Duke of York was conferred as chancellor of the university in 2015 for a period of five years and the university would like to thank the Duke for his work during his period as chancellor.
