Heartbreaking! King Charles left Princess Diana ‘devastated’ As Shocking details revealed
Today marks the 44th anniversary of Princess Diana’s wedding to Prince Charles, a momentous occasion that captivated royal fans around the world.
However, behind the scenes, Diana was struggling with her reality, revealing a more complex and nuanced story than the fairy tale wedding that unfolded on July 29, 1981.
In tapes recorded for journalist Andrew Morton in the early 1990s, Diana revealed that she suffered a “very bad fit of bulimia” the night before her wedding, just hours before walking down the aisle.
“I ate everything I could possibly find, which amused my sister, and nobody understood what was going on there,” she said. “It was very hush-hush. I was as sick as a parrot that night. It was such an indication of what was going on.”
Despite her struggles, Diana did find moments of excitement on the eve of her wedding. When she couldn’t sleep, she snuck downstairs at Clarence House and rode a bicycle around in circles, ringing the bell and singing: “I’m going to marry the Prince of Wales tomorrow!”
However, Diana’s mindset shifted dramatically when morning broke. “I was very, very calm, deathly calm,” she recalled.
“I felt I was a lamb to the slaughter. I knew it and couldn’t do anything about it.” She also realised that she had taken on an enormous role without fully understanding what she was getting into.
According to a friend of Diana’s, Charles made a devastating confession to her the night before the wedding, revealing that he didn’t love her.
“One of the most shocking things that Diana told me was that the night before the wedding Charles told her that he didn’t love her… I think Charles didn’t want to go into the wedding on a false premise. He wanted to square it with her and it was devastating for Diana. She didn’t want to go through with the wedding at that point, she thought about not attending the wedding.”
Despite these challenges, the wedding went ahead as planned, with 3,500 guests attending the ceremony at St Paul’s Cathedral in London. The event was watched by a record-breaking 750 million people in 74 countries around the world.
The marriage ultimately ended in separation in 1992 and divorce in 1996. Royal author Penny Junor claims that Charles believed the wedding was a mistake but knew it was too late to pull out.
“Charles was not convinced he was doing the right thing in marrying Diana but there was no way out and, bolstered by the hope that things would be different once they were married, he put a brave face on it.
