SAD NEWS: King Charles Heartbroken as he ‘regrets bad behavior’ that led to Princess Diana’s Divorce
King Charles reportedly carries a deep sense of regret over the collapse of his marriage to Princess Diana, with sources close to the monarch revealing he reflects often on the pain and sadness caused during that turbulent time that led to divorce.
According to the Daily Mail’s royal editor Rebecca English, friends of King Charles opened up about the emotional toll the divorce had on Charles – and how he views the mistakes of the past with remorse.
King Charles’ relationship with Princess Diana placed him in ‘an impossible situation
“Both of them [Charles and Diana] behaved badly in that first marriage and made decisions that none of us could ever condone,” one close friend shared. “But we can seek to try to understand them.”
The pals apparently said that Charles still “regrets” the pain and sadness caused.
They added that he was placed in a situation that was deeply complex and emotionally stifling.
“When you look back on it now, asking someone to sacrifice… happiness for the sake of their public persona seems really quite cruel,” the confidant said.
Charles still deeply ‘regrets’ the pain and sadness caused.
Princess Diana famously alluded to the emotional strain within their marriage and Charles’ affair with Camilla Parker Bowles during her 1995 BBC Panorama interview.
“There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded,” she said at the time.
Despite their separate marriages, those close to Charles and Camilla say their relationship was inevitable.
I don’t think [Camilla] was ever going to [walk away],” one friend confirmed. “She was committed to him.”
King Charles and Queen Camilla wedding
Charles and Camilla finally wed on April 9, 2005, decades after their first romantic connection. But their journey to the altar wasn’t without fear.
Friends recall how anxious Camilla – now Queen Camilla – was in the lead-up to their wedding.
The Duchess of Cornwall was an absolute bag of nerves in the run-up to [the wedding],” one source recalled. “She was so terrified she couldn’t eat and felt sick. In fact, she was actually sick, with sinus problems.”
During the ceremony itself, Camilla was so overcome that she lost her place in the Order of Service.
The source said she was “shaking so much she lost her place in the Order of Service during the ceremony and [Charles] had to touch her hand to reassure her”.
The couple once faced intense public scrutiny. However, insiders say that the British public eventually came to recognise the genuine love and loyalty between Charles and Camilla.
Today, King Charles and Queen Camilla present a united front. The couple is bonded not only by decades of shared history but also by weathering the fallout of their past.
Although the wounds from the Charles-Diana-Camilla triangle still linger in public memory, those close to the monarch say his remorse is sincere.
