Prince William was unhappy with this one detail at his wedding to Kate Middleton

The wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton was a highly anticipated global event, watched by millions worldwide. At its core, it was a celebration of the love between two individuals.

Despite the Royal significance, the couple wanted to incorporate personal touches into the ceremony. However, there was one aspect that William was unhappy with, prompting him to express his concerns to his grandmother, the Queen – the Mirror reports.

According to Royal expert Roya Nikkhah, featured in the BBC documentary Royal Wedding: A Day to Remember, William was perplexed by the suggested guest list, which included many unfamiliar names. Nikkhah explains: “When the guest list was drawn up [William] was very bemused and had a conversation with the Queen to say ‘I don’t know any of these people’. He wasn’t very happy about it. The Queen just said to him, rip that list up and start where you want to start from and invite who you want – and that’s what they did.”

The guest list for the Royal wedding was a personal and eclectic mix of friends, family, and acquaintances who had played a significant role in the couple’s lives. Instead of inviting solely dignitaries and politicians, William and Kate opted to fill Westminster Abbey with people they had a genuine connection with.

This included friends from their university days, old colleagues, and even the landlord of the Middleton family’s local pub, The Old Boot Inn, in Kate’s hometown. John Haley, the landlord, recalled the experience fondly, saying: “It was great that Kate and William were allowed to invite all their own friends. Friends from the village, from uni, friends that she grew up with. She invited me, I’ve known her 15 years or so. It was fabulous.”

The guest list also featured a number of celebrities, including Sir Elton John, David and Victoria Beckham, Rowan Atkinson, and Joss Stone.

Additionally, the couple invited representatives from charities they supported, such as Seyi Obakin, the CEO of Centrepoint, a homeless charity. He remembered the day vividly, saying: “I was excited, who wouldn’t be? The second in line to the throne is getting married, this is a future king. I was over the moon.”

In a break from tradition, William arrived at the ceremony early to mingle with the guests
His brother Harry played a supportive role, using humour to keep William calm and composed before the ceremony began. Despite Prince William and Kate Middleton having control over their wedding guest list, the Queen had the final say on one particular matter.

The groom had hoped to don his Household Cavalry military uniform for the nuptials, but his grandmother had a different plan in mind. “The military is everything to William and to Harry. The Queen said no, you’re wearing your Irish Guards. You are the new Colonel of the Irish Guards. That’s the one thing he didn’t get his way on, and he deferred to granny.
