Camilla and King Charles could face an embarrassing snub as Princess Kate and Prince William may be invited on an official state visit to the US, according to a royal commentator.

Prince William, 42, met with Trump, 78, at the official reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris in December last year, and the pair exchanged warm words.

Donald Trump is reportedly days away from inviting Royal Family members to the US for a state visit – but it is currently unknown which royals could be invited to make the trip.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzgerald suggested that the US President might look to meet with Prince William instead of the monarch.

He told GB News: “I do think the US would do something with the royals that could involve Charles and Camilla, but it could also involve the Prince and Princess of Wales going to the United States.”

The royal commentator proposed that Trump could pay a semi-official visit “similar to when he visited the late Queen” in 2019, stating “it is possible.

Fitzwilliams also noted longstanding protocol, with no US president ever visiting the UK on two separate state visits.

He said: “A second state visit is something that has never happened before.

The royal commentator added: “Something with the Royal Family could happen as that would appeal to Trump but it is early days. We don’t know what exactly is being planned.”

It follows reports that Trump is expected to invite the Prince and Princess of Wales to Washington DC when the US President meets Keir Starmer this week.

The President is understood to have considered Princess Kate’s health when planning to invite the royal pair to a state visit, according to reports.

Any official visit by the Royal Family to attend a state visit must be arranged through the Government.

A source told the Mail: “President Trump very much enjoyed meeting Prince William in France.

“He was wowed by William and thinks he’s a great guy.
“He will officially invite both the Prince and Princess of Wales to visit Washington but understands if the Princess of Wales’ health issues prevent her from coming.”

Fitzwilliams previously told GB News: “Britain’s Trump card is the Royal Family, and it is certain that something will be happening involving Donald Trump in the not-too-distant future.
