A royal expert has provided fresh insights into Meghan Markle’s true feelings about Kate Middleton, revealing that the former actress saw her sister-in-law as “too much a goody-two-shoes girl” who was overly concerned with pleasing those around her, in the latest bombshell revelation.
The Duchess of Sussex and the Princess of Wales struggled to find common ground during the time Markle lived in the United Kingdom with Prince Harry, their dynamic fraught with tensions and misunderstandings.
That’s despite both Markle and Middleton coming from relatively ordinary backgrounds before marrying into the British Royal Family, and now Tom Quinn opens up on what Meghan truly thought of her sister-in-law.
Apparently the 43-year-old believed the mother-of-three to be “too eager to please” those around her and in general “too much a goody-two-shoes girl”, in an extract taken as per The Times.
One of the key differences between Meghan and Kate was their approach to navigating the rigid traditions of royal life, with the former being more likely to opt for confrontation whilst the latter would bide her time.
“All the royal staff I spoke to agreed that Meghan must have felt she was slightly looked down on by the courtiers,” Quinn writes in Yes Ma’am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants. “Some people can cope with this.
“Kate Middleton is perhaps the supreme example, but others try to fight back, which is what Meghan clearly did. ‘You’ve got to hand it to her,’ a former member of her staff said. ‘She really is a fighter.’
“She [Middleton] doesn’t jump in straight away and try to change everything to suit her way of thinking. She bides her time and is very intelligent and intuitive about other people, what they do and how they behave.”
Meghan and Kate’s flashpoint: What is the baby brain incident?
Kate’s ability to adapt seamlessly to royal life, Quinn argues, was in part due to coaching from both Prince William and royal staff, who helped her avoid the struggles faced by Princess Diana.
The Duchess, on the other hand, reportedly clashed with the royal institution’s rigid rules and traditions. The book suggests that Meghan’s more direct and outspoken nature led to several conflicts, including well-documented disagreements with the Princess of Wales.
One of the most well-known tensions between the two women occurred in the lead-up to Meghan and Harry’s 2018 wedding, when a conversation about “baby brain” sparked a heated exchange.
Meghan reportedly made the remark after Kate forgot a detail about the wedding plans, which Meghan attributed to postpartum hormones-an observation Kate did not take kindly to and later confronted her about alongside Prince William.
Meghan later explained in an Oprah interview that Kate eventually apologized with flowers and a note, but the incident highlighted the underlying friction between the two women and their different approaches to royal life.
