Princess Kate returns to Wales for the first time since cancer battle

Princess Kate has returned to Wales for the first time since she announced she was diagnosed with cancer in March last year.

The Princess of Wales visited a children’s hospice near Cardiff, which supports families in Wales to enable children with life-shortening conditions to live fulfilling lives.

It comes two weeks after Princess Kate announced she was “in remission” from cancer after she undertook her first solo engagement in more than a year at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, where she was treated for her cancer.

Tŷ Hafan, based in Sully, was the first children’s hospice in Wales, opening its doors in 1999.

Kate also joined a “stay and play” session, which sees the children enjoy meaningful play and activities alongside their care.

The mother of three met with bereaved families supported by Tŷ Hafan.

Catherine aims to spotlight the wellbeing of children and families as well as celebrate excellence in Welsh textile manufacturing, both causes close to the princess’ heart.

The South Wales facility provides free care and support to children with life-shortening conditions and their families, both within the hospice and in homes and communities.

The charity’s ambition is that no family should have to live their child’s short life alone, and they are determined to walk alongside every family who needs their support every step of the way.

Tŷ Hafan is committed to providing holistic support, focusing on the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of the children in its care and their families.

The charity is also focused on fostering connections and creating a feeling of community that ensures children and families feel more supported through their shared experiences.

Kensington Palace has arranged for a donation of musical instruments to be provided to the children’s hospice, so they can provide more music therapy sessions.

The Princess arrived wearing a Zara black & white Houndstooth Dress with a coat.

She accessorised with “Spells of Love” Alia gold hoop earrings.

The Princess of Wales wore Russell and Bromley black pumps.

She has previously worn all these items.
