Princess Beatrice’s tough pregnancy as she welcomes daughter prematurely
Princess Beatrice is adjusting to life with her newborn daughter, Athena, who was born last week on January 22.
The proud father, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, shared a charming photo of the baby girl, showcasing her dark hair and dressed in a white long-sleeved outfit, swaddled in a pink blanket. Beatrice had announced her pregnancy in October, with an expected due date in spring.
However, little Athena arrived several weeks early at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London, weighing 4lb 5oz.
This joyous event follows a challenging period for Beatrice. It was speculated that she would spend Christmas abroad with Edoardo’s family, but due to medical advice against long-distance travel, she remained in the UK and celebrated the holiday with the Royal family at Sandringham.
Despite the possibility of a premature birth, Athena is now at home with her parents and getting to know her three year old sister Sienna and older half-brother Wolfie. Buckingham Palace announced her birth earlier today, stating: “Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, born on Wednesday, 22nd January, at 12.57pm, at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London.”
The statement also revealed that the baby weighed four pounds and five ounces at birth and that “Their Majesties The King and Queen and other members of the Royal family have all been informed and are delighted with the news.”, reports the Mirror.
Edoardo, Beatrice’s husband, took to Instagram to share a photo of Athena wrapped in a blanket and express his joy, writing: “Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi. We welcomed baby Athena into our lives last week. She is tiny and absolutely perfect. We are all (including Wolfie and Sienna) already completely besotted with her. Our hearts are overflowing with love for you, baby Athena.”
The royal’s husband expressed his gratitude to the hospital staff, “A massive thank you from my wife and I goes out to all the wonderful staff at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their exceptional care and support during this incredibly special time.”
Meanwhile, Princess Eugenie also shared her excitement by posting “Welcome Baby Girl” on her Instagram Stories, accompanied by a photo of baby Sienna, wrapped in pink. Although the baby will not receive a Royal title, she will inherit an Italian title from her father, who is an Italian count.
Edoardo’s father, Count Allessandro Mapelli Mozzi, previously explained to the Daily Mail: “Edoardo is the only male descendent taking the family into the next generation. He is a count, his wife will be a countess automatically and any of their children will be counts or nobile donna.”
