King Charles holds important meeting with key royal amid abdication plans
King Charles III, who’s said to be planning for Prince William’s ascension to the throne, has held an important meeting with King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark who ascended to the throne after Queen Margrethe II’s surprise abdication.
The British and Danish monarchs put on a united display as the two royals shared a warm greeting and interaction, with Frederik, 56, affectionately patting Charles on his shoulder.
The then Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary witnessed the King’s coronation in London in May 2023, with the British monarch later congratulating the Danish royal couple on the day of Frederik’s accession in January 2024.
King Charles sent a message to the couple on their big day, writing: “My wife joins me in writing to convey our very best wishes on the day of your accession to the throne of the Kingdom of Denmark.”
The latest meeting between the two dignitaries comes amid reports that the 76-year-old monarch is planning his eldest son William’s ascension. The King recently shared his plans with his daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton.
She and Charles had a private meeting about her stepping up sooner than expected, as quoted in a report by Radar Online.
Palace officials are setting priorities to ensure the Prince and Princess of Wales have as smooth transition to power as possible. The couple have reportedly started preparing for William’s heir apparent.
Sally Bedell Smith, a royal biographer, previously claimed that the king has had to accept limitations during his cancer treatment, even though he is carrying out his duties with typical determination.
Meanwhile, Heir to the throne William has been taking on more duties, and he and Kate have been getting ready for their future positions earlier than they had anticipated.
