I feel totally worthless: Kate and William left Fergie devastated; difficult to…
Sarah Ferguson, known as Fergie, entered the royal circle in 1986, when she married the Queen’s second son Prince Andrew. The couple have two children, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, but after five years of marriage, their relationship began to fall apart. The Duke and Duchess of York announced their separation on 19 March 1992.
Following the separation, the palace announced that the Duchess would no longer carry out public engagements on behalf of the Queen.
Furthermore, the Queen announced in a statement that she would not take responsibility for Sarah’s debts.
In August 1992, photographs of the Duchess sunbathing topless with John Bryan, an American financial manager, were published in the Daily Mirror.
Prince Andrew and Fergie finalised their divorce in 1996.
Since the divorce many members of the Royal Family have turned their back on the 59-year-old.
She was not invited to the 2011 wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Fergie has previously said she found it difficult to cope with not being invited to the royal wedding.
However, she added she isn’t bitter about being snubbed and takes solace in the fact that Prince William’s mother was also absent.
In an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2011 the Duchess revealed it had been “difficult”.
Asked how hurt she felt by the snub, the former royal said: “It was so difficult.
“Because I wanted to be there with my girls … and to be getting them dressed and to go as a family.
“And it was also hard because the last bride up that aisle was me.
I think what I felt was that I went through the phase of feeling so totally worthless and that [it] was quite right they didn’t invite me.”
Fergie added she believed Prince William’s mother would have been “so proud of her son”.
She said: “I’m here to say how proud she would have been and Kate looked utterly beautiful.”
Fergie attended the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018.
However, she did not receive an invitation to the evening reception at Frogmore House hosted by Prince Charles, and was reportedly “deeply upset” by her exclusion.
The Daily Mail reported the Duchess has been complaining about this “to anyone who will listen.
A source told the publication: “Numbers are limited to the evening party.
“She is not a member of the Royal Family any more and Prince Charles simply doesn’t have time for her.
“He just can’t see why she is still such a big part of his brother’s life.
