The key line in Harry’s memoir that reduced Kate Middleton to tears laid bare

Prince Harry’s memoir came out months ago, but some accusations he made still reportedly sting when it comes to some members of the Royal Family.

Prince William and Princess Kate are reportedly “furious” with William’s younger brother for claims he made in Spare, his memoir that was released in January 2023.

Tom Quinn, author of Guilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family, told Daily Express US that the couple were not fans of how William was described in his brother’s book, noting: “I interviewed people that worked for Harry and Meghan when they were in England. I also interviewed people that worked for Kate and William. They say that privately there’s a lot more anger than there is publicly.”

The claim that upset the two royals the most – the accusation that William and Harry got into a physical fight. “Brothers fight all the time,” Tom added, “William is really angry about the whole idea that these difficulties should be aired in public.”

The fight was supposedly about Harry’s marriage to Meghan Markle. Harry wrote in his memoir that William called Meghan “difficult”, “rude,” and “abrasive”. Harry took offence, writing that his brother was just “parroting the press narrative” about his wife. A physical fight allegedly broke out, where Harry wrote William “grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and…knocked me to the floor.”

The memoir in general placed the Royals in a bad light. Harry wrote that his father King Charles would joke that Harry wasn’t his son, and Harry referred to himself as the “spare” child, where the book gets its name. William and Kate might also be angry about other parts of the book, like when Harry claimed that Kate made Meghan cry over bridesmaids dresses for Meghan’s wedding. Harry also seemingly placed some of the blame on Will and Kate for his decision to wear a Nazi outfit to a costume party in 2005. The Duke of Sussex wrote that the couple “howled” with laughter at his costume choice.

Harry and Meghan stepped back from Royal duties in 2020 and headed to Canada to start a new life. The two then moved to Santa Barbara, California that same year. Together the couple has two children, Archie, four, and Lilibet, two.
