The Princess of Wales will join Prince William at Holocaust Memorial Day commemorations in London today, marking another significant step in her return to public duties following cancer treatment.

The royal couple will attend official events together commemorating the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Kate, 43, who recently revealed she is now in remission from cancer, will participate in ceremonies alongside her husband.

The commemorative events will bring together faith and civic leaders, as well as survivors of the Holocaust and more recent genocides.

The ceremony will be broadcast on BBC1 at 7pm this evening.

Prince William, 42, will deliver a reading during the ceremony and light a candle alongside young representatives from the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust and partner organisations.

The heir to the throne is also scheduled to hold a private meeting with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who will speak at the ceremony.

As per convention, no public details will be released about their behind-closed-doors discussions.

Before the main ceremony, the Prince and Princess of Wales are expected to meet with Holocaust survivors at an undisclosed location to hear their personal stories.

The couple previously attended Holocaust Memorial Day events in 2020 for the 75th anniversary of the Auschwitz liberation, where they also met survivors.

They have shown continued commitment to Holocaust remembrance, with Kate opening the Holocaust Gallery at London’s Imperial War Museum in 2021, and the couple visiting Berlin’s Holocaust Memorial in 2017.

Meanwhile, King Charles will make history today as the first British head of state to visit Auschwitz, travelling to Poland to mark the 80th anniversary.

The King will tour the former concentration camp alongside foreign monarchs, presidents, prime ministers and survivors.
Kate’s participation in today’s London ceremonies marks another milestone in her gradual return to public duties.

Just a fortnight ago, she carried out her first significant solo engagement in more than a year, visiting the Royal Marsden Hospital in London on January 14.

The Princess has faced significant health challenges over the past year, including abdominal surgery and subsequent cancer diagnosis.

Earlier this month, Kate revealed she is now in remission from cancer, one year after her initial hospital admission on January 16, 2024.
