Cancer does not change King Charles’ reigning goals, Prince William will have to…
As 2025 unfolds, King Charles has a packed calendar filled with important engagements that highlight his dedication to his role as monarch. On Monday, he will be in Poland for a moving ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of Auschwitz.
Late, he will make an important trip to Italy to meet with the Pope. His royal duties also keep him occupied with public engagements across the United Kingdom, continuing his work to connect with the people and represent the monarchy on the global stage.
However, a year ago, things were vastly different. In early 2024, the King’s health took a turn when he was admitted to the hospital for treatment related to a benign, enlarged prostate. This news came just hours after it was revealed that the Princess of Wales had undergone abdominal surgery.
The King’s condition escalated soon after, with Buckingham Palace confirming that he had been diagnosed with cancer, though not prostate cancer. The form of cancer remains undisclosed.
In the weeks following this revelation, the King took time away from public duties to begin his treatment. Despite this, he made a remarkable recovery and resumed his royal engagements. Later that year, he successfully completed a major overseas tour to Australia and Samoa, showing resilience and determination in the face of his diagnosis.
A ‘new normal’ for King Charles
As he moves into another busy period of travel and public appearances, King Charles continues his cancer treatment. Royal ‘expert’ Jennie Bond, a former BBC royal correspondent, believes the King’s experience over the past year has forced him to adjust to what she calls a “new normal.”
A full year of treatment must certainly have taken its toll, but he’s shown that he is absolutely determined to get back to working as normally as possible,” she told The Mirror.
“Like Catherine, the King is undoubtedly having to get used to a ‘new normal.’ His doctors will continue to keep an extremely close eye on him and will do their best to warn him if he is taking on too much. Understandably, though, Charles is a man in a hurry. Cancer has changed the way he thought his reign would begin, and it will be hard to shake off the anxiety that living with cancer must bring.”
