Royal family ‘worried Meghan Markle is using Prince Harry’ after bombshell move

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are in the spotlight once again following a harsh critique in a high-profile US magazine.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are facing numerous allegations in Vanity Fair’s scathing cover story titled ‘American Hustle,’ which explores their life after stepping down from royal duties five years ago. The article includes unsettling claims about what it’s supposedly like to work for the couple.

However, this isn’t the first time a Vanity Fair piece on the duo has stirred controversy, with a previous cover story allegedly causing “alarm bells to ring” at the palace. The drama stemmed from a headline used with a picture of Meghan.

In 2017, Meghan graced the cover of Vanity Fair to celebrate the 100th episode of her TV legal drama Suits. The cover featured a glamorous photo of Meghan with the headline, “She’s Just Wild About Harry.

Inside, she discussed her love story with her now husband and confirmed, “We’re in love”. According to Richard Eden of the Daily Mail, this cover, which was released two months before her engagement to Harry, raised eyebrows at the palace.

A source told him, “It was like a punch to the solar plexus. We do not expect friends of members of the royal family to give such interviews.”

The source detailed that both Kate Middleton and Princess Diana adhered to royal protocol by waiting for their engagements to be officially announced before participating in any interviews, which were meticulously arranged by royal officials under strict guidelines. The source further commented, “While people were pleased that Harry had found a serious girlfriend, the article did set alarm bells ringing. It made people worry that Miss Markle was seeking to use the relationship for publicity purposes.

However, Meghan herself was reportedly dissatisfied with the article’s portrayal, as revealed in a book by Valentine Low. In Courtiers, Low described how Meghan detested the piece, disliked the photographs and believed the story cast too much focus on Harry and carried a negative tone.

In addition to these revelations, the latest Vanity Fair article makes several other claims, including that Harry may have underestimated the impact his tell-all book Spare would have on family relations, that Meghan has taken steps to “re-parent” Harry and that the Sussexes seemed to lack concrete ideas for their Netflix and Spotify projects.

This follows a few months after an article in the Hollywood Reporter dubbed Meghan as ‘Duchess Difficult’. However, shortly after the publication of the piece, both current and former staff members of the Sussexes defended their experience working for Meghan in US Weekly magazine.
