Kate Middleton follows in Princess Diana’s footsteps with touching move
Kate Middleton is taking inspiration from her late mother-in-law Princess Diana as she strives to provide a normal upbringing for her children.
Despite being a member of the royal family, Diana was known for her efforts to give her sons a typical family life, often choosing to personally care for them instead of relying on nannies. This approach seems to resonate with Kate.
The Princess of Wales lives with her family at Adelaide Cottage. The four-bedroom home is modest by royal standards, and Kate and her husband Prince William chose not to bring their nanny, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, when they moved there in 2022.
Borrallo, who has been with the family since Prince George was six months old, now lives separately nearby. This arrangement reflects William and Kate’s desire to raise their children in as normal an environment as possible.
Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis even reportedly help with household chores like cooking and tidying up. Diana, despite being surrounded by palace staff and servants while raising Princes William and Harry, shared parenting values akin to those of her future daughter-in-law, Kate.
A former royal chef has revealed Diana often butted heads with the staff over her casual parenting style. She was known for allowing the young princes to enjoy their meals in a laid-back setting, sometimes even in front of the TV with trays.
She even famously swapped a formal dinner for a McDonald’s run to satisfy their craving for Happy Meal toys. Speaking to HELLO! Magazine, Darren McGrady, who served as a royal chef from 1982 until Diana’s death in 1997, reminisced, “She wasn’t strict at all. She let them be boys, young boys.
He continued, “There was always a battle between her and Nanny. Nanny would say, ‘No, they’re eating their dinner, they’re having cabbage.’ And the Princess would say, ‘No, if they’re with me and they want loaded potato skins and fried chicken then they can have that. And if they don’t eat it and they still want pudding, they can have that too!’ She was much more relaxed than Nanny.”
McGrady also noted the princes’ preference for comfort foods, such as banana flan, burgers, pizza, spaghetti and meatballs, and chicken in cream sauce, highlighting that despite their royal status, they had typical children’s tastes.
