Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are facing evacuation from their home as the Los Angeles wildfire rages on.

Electricity companies around Montecito, where the pair live with their two children, suggested on Wednesday that shut downs of power were possible. The area has been deemed a “high fire risk.”

This means the Duke and Duchess of Sussex might have to leave their mansion and move to safety. A spokesman for Southern California Edison – one of the major power providers in the area – said it was “considering a Public Safety Power Shutoff in parts of Santa Barbara County due to a Red Flag Warning and increased risk of wildfires.”

He confirmed “affected customers” were being contacted in a number of communities, “including Montecito.” The news comes as around 30,000 people have already been told to evacuate their homes in nearby Los Angeles.

Wildfires, whipped up by strong winds, have raged across the wealthy neighbourhood of Pacific Palisades. Thousands of acres were burnt in the hills around the Palisades.

Utility companies shut off power to more than 8,000 homes to prevent live electrical wires from increasing the fire risk. California Governor Gavin Newsom has said many structures have already been destroyed as a result of the wildfires.

He announced a state of emergency for Ventura and Los Angeles Counties following the fire. Officials have not given an exact number of structures damaged or destroyed in the blaze.

Meghan and Harry’s Montecito neighborhood has a strict fire control programme in place. This ensures everything from clearing up dried leaves to installling fire-proofing in every building.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex bought their 16-bathroom home for $14.65 million in 2020 after they stepped down from the royal family. They live in the property with their two kids – Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
