Royal fans took a moment to reflect upon 2024 before embracing the New Year, with some taking a look back at Princess Kate’s turbulent year where she has been supported by her husband Prince William. One person explained that they broke down into floods of tears when they looked back at the Princess of Wales receiving a standing ovation.
It sent shockwaves around the globe when it was revealed that Princess Kate, 42, would be stepping back from her public duties to receive preventive healthcare treatment. It was said back in spring that she had been diagnosed with an unspecified cancer and required chemotherapy.
Despite spending months out of the spotlight, she made a triumphant return to the tennis championship final where she presented Carlos Alcaraz the trophy. This was only her second appearance since the news was announced.
Before the trophy presentation, the future Queen, who was joined by her daughter, Princess Charlotte, was greeted by a standing ovation when she arrived in the Royal Box at Centre Court to watch the victory over Novak Djokovic.
User @LouisBhcp took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and re-shared the footage five months later. They wrote: “This moment that moved me to tears #PrincessofWales #wimbledon #2024.
Fans flooded the comments section with sweet tributes with one person replying: “Me too. To see the light shine from her healing smile – so much needed at such a time.”
The Princess was joined by her daughter Princess Charlotte and her sister Pippa Middleton. Another added: “The gentle way she put her hand out/guided her sister Pippa shows you her soul.”
Meanwhile another agreed and responded to the tweet saying: “I think it moved everyone to tears. It was a wonderful moment.
In the tear-jerking moment where thousands rose from their seats when they witnessed her surprise presence, a lip reader revealed what she said during the sweet moment.
Jeremy Freeman claimed to the Sun that Kate told Charlotte to “come over here” as they got to their seats, before thanking the steward who accompanied them and waving to the crowd.
Princess Kate appeared overwhelmed and smiled while saying “hi” to the spectators.
Row by row people stood on their feet while applauding her. The Royal then turned to the lady next to her and commented “so sweet”.
Following the nail-biting match Kate went from the stands down to the playing surface to present the trophies – this is part of her duties as patron of the All England Club, which hosts the annual tournament.
The mother of three shook hands with some of the ball kids who worked at the tournament, then exchanged words with both players.
