Despite any wishful thinking royal fans may have had, there was no father-son reconciliation between King Charles and Prince Harry during the former senior royal’s most recent visit to the U.K. this week. And Charles’s wife, Queen Camilla, might’ve had something to do with it.
According to a new report by The Daily Beast, Camilla allegedly discouraged Charles from meeting with his youngest son, as she did not want him to be subjected to any unnecessary stress ahead of his upcoming trip to Australia this month. (The trip has already been shortened amid Charles’s ongoing cancer battle).
She [Camilla] has been the principal voice urging Charles to slow down and take things easy,” a a friend of the queen told the outlet, adding: “The last thing she wants him to do is to get stressed out over a meeting with Harry.”
Charles, on the other hand, wants to heal his relationship with Harry, the source shared. “The king has an instinctive impulse towards Christian reconciliation, and his cancer diagnosis has only sharpened that,” the insider said. “He wants this settled, not just because he loves both his sons, but because it has been so destabilizing for the monarchy.”
Harry and Charles have only met face-to-face once this year after Harry flew to London to see his father immediately after he announced his cancer diagnosis. However, there have been plenty of opportunities for them to see each other since then. The last one being in August at the funeral of Harry’s uncle Lord Fellowes (Princess Diana’s brother-in-law) in London, where William was also present.
The brothers reportedly ignored each other during the service. “William and Harry were both there but we never saw them speak to each other and they were keeping their distance,” an attendee told People at the time.
