Kate marked a ‘new beginning’ by ‘replacing’ her sapphire engagement ring

A leading jewellery expert has claimed that Princess Kate’s most significant jewellery moment of 2024 was her choice to wear a distinctive eternity band amid her cancer treatment.

Tobias Kormind, Managing Director of 77 Diamonds, told GB News that the wide band, featuring sapphires and diamonds, made a particularly poignant statement during a challenging year for the Princess of Wales.

The ring first caught public attention when Kate appeared in a Team GB video in August, before taking centre stage during her emotional announcement about completing chemotherapy treatment.

The new ring appeared to be an infinity band, which held particular significance given the circumstances.

The princess opted to wear this new piece instead of her iconic sapphire engagement ring during several public appearances throughout 2024.

Kormind explained to GB News that the new ring symbolised “hope for new beginnings” during Kate’s recovery journey.
The eternity band was notably visible when the Princess of Wales joined Prince William to meet bereaved families of the Southport stabbing victims in September, marking her first joint official outing since completing treatment.

The new ring’s design deliberately echoes Kate’s famous engagement ring, which features a 12-carat Ceylon sapphire surrounded by diamonds.

Kormind exclusively told GB News: “While the Princess of Wales made far fewer public appearances this year, her most poignant jewellery look was her new wide eternity band interspersed with sapphires and diamonds that we first caught a glimpse of in a video congratulating Team GB.

“However, the ring featured more prominently in the emotional message shared by the Waleses announcing the end of Kate’s chemotherapy.

“It is a nod to her sapphire engagement ring which belonged to Princess Diana, seeming to symbolise the start of hopeful new beginnings, with a touching tie to the past.”

The choice of sapphires creates a meaningful connection to the heirloom engagement ring that once belonged to Princess Diana.

The Princess of Wales made a notable return to wearing her iconic sapphire engagement ring at the Festival of Remembrance in November.

The reappearance of the historic piece pleased fans, as it features a 12-carat Ceylon sapphire from Sri Lanka.

Royal watchers immediately spotted the change, as Kate had not been seen wearing the engagement ring for several months.

Several jewellery experts had previously suggested the temporary switch to the eternity ring was likely due to practical considerations during her treatment period.

Royal fans took to social media to express their delight at seeing the princess wearing her engagement ring again.
“I see she’s wearing her big engagement ring again!” wrote one user on X, while another added: “And her beautiful sapphire engagement ring has made a return!”

The public’s enthusiastic response highlighted the symbolic importance of the ring’s reappearance.

Many observers noted that Kate looked particularly confident during the November event, with one social media user commenting: “She looks stunning! Not just because of the outfit, but she exudes a self-confidence that makes her look amazing
