Kate Middleton ‘clashed’ with Meghan Markle after uncomfortable request
When Meghan Markle first started dating Prince Harry, many fans expected a close bond to form between her and Kate Middleton.
However, the Duke of Sussex recounted an awkward encounter between the two women which resulted in a bitter feud. The incident occurred at the Royal Foundation Forum in February 2018, where Harry, Meghan, Kate and Prince William discussed their charitable work.
This marked the first official engagement involving all four royals. According to Harry’s explosive memoir Spare, a backstage incident occurred before the forum where Meghan asked to borrow Kate’s lip gloss, leading to what he described as a “small clash of styles.”
In the book, Harry wrote, “Meg asked to borrow Kate’s lip gloss. An American thing. Meg forgot hers, worried she needed some, and turned to Kate for help. Kate, taken aback, went into her handbag and reluctantly pulled out a small tube.”
He continued, “Meg squeezed some onto her finger and applied it to her lips. Kate grimaced. Small clash of styles maybe.”
During the actual event, Meghan emphasized her commitment to women’s empowerment, highlighting the importance of the movement. She said, “With so many campaigns like MeToo and TimesUp, there’s no better time to continue to shine a light on women feeling empowered and people supporting them.
She added, “You’ll often hear people say, ‘Well you’re helping people find their voice’ and I fundamentally disagree with that, because women don’t need to find a voice. They have a voice, they need to feel empowered to use it, and people need to be encouraged to listen.
During the event, both Meghan and Kate impressed attendees with their blue outfits, showcasing their different fashion preferences and varying price points. While pregnant with Prince Louis, Kate wore a stunning maternity dress from Seraphine priced at $138.
On the other hand, Meghan caught the eye of fans in a navy Jason Wu dress – the Crepe Back Satin Belted Wrap Dress – which cost a whopping $1,795, nearly 15 times more expensive than Kate’s.
