Prince William and Kate make their feelings clear Over normal Christmas with the Middletons’
Every Christmas period sees the Royal Family travel to Sandringham for their festive celebrations.
During this time, a number of customs take place among including the family’s Christmas walk to the church on the estate and their tradition of gag-gift giving.
William and Kate skipped the traditional pre-Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace with the pair reportedly looking to make other changes when it comes to Christmas.
The Wales’s will join King Charles and Queen Camilla to celebrate Christmas at Sandringham again this year but this could change in the future.
According to a Daily Mail source, both William and Kate are looking to have more informal festivities in the future which could see the end of a traditional era for the family.
source states the royal pair and their three children, George, Charlotte and Louis, could be opting for more Christmases at the Middleton’s home.
The source added that this could become the new norm for the Royal Family who will look to resume alternating the special day between Sandrighnam and Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton.
One royal expert added that Prince William and Princess Kate are looking to have a more normal Christmas in the future and could one day abandon the Royal Family’s traditions during Christmas.
Speaking to OK!, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond said: “I don’t think they worry particularly about how they’re perceived at Christmas but I do think that Catherine and William want to do things in a more normal way.
They are lucky because they have their own home close to Sandringham so they’ve always been able to wake up there, do stockings and presents and then go over to the big house for the more formal celebrations.”
Bond added how she suspects that when William and Kate become King and Queen “a lot of traditions will change and the exchange of presents on Christmas Eve may well be one of them”.
As for this Christmas, the Prince and Princess of Wales will be staying at a nearby residence to Norfolk House with Anmer Hall being their home away from home with their three children.
Anmer Hall is an 18th-century red-brick house found in the village of Anmer in Norfolk, England.
The family’s festive getaway follows Kate’s Together At Christmas Carol Service which was one of her rare public appearances made this year to honour those helping the needy.
After Christmas Day, many members of the Royal Family will be making a hasty retreat in order to fulfill their other duties.
Camilla will be off to Wiltshire after Christmas where she is set to host her own family’s celebrations. King Charles who, unlike his late mother Queen Elizabeth who enjoyed an extended winter break at the Norfolk estate, will be heading to Birkhall after Boxing Day.
Despite what many believe about the Royal Family and their Christmas traditions, the Sandringham Christmas tradition wasn’t always set in stone.
During the first half of the late Queen’s reign, Christmas festivities were always spent at Windsor.
