Didn’t end well: Kate and William played ‘never have I ever’ with his ex-girlfriend at…
KATE Middleton and Prince William once played ‘never have I ever’ with his ex-girlfriend at university, and it didn’t end well.
Anyone who’s ever played the drinking game could tell you this was a bad idea – but the 37-year-old prince was still caught unaware by his ex’s dig.
The couple were at a dinner party with their gang of friends at St Andrews back in 2002 – a group which unfortunately included one Carly Massy-Birch.
And things got awkward when they decided to play a game of ‘never have I ever’, royal expert Katie Nicholl wrote in her 2011 book The Making of a Royal Romance.
The popular drinking game sees people take turns to name something they’ve never done – with others in the group having to down their drink if they have done it.
And Carly took the opportunity to drop William right in it, reportedly leaving the Duchess of Cambridge fuming.
When it was Carly’s turn to play she announced, ‘I’ve never dated two people in this room,’ knowing full well that William was the only one who had because Kate was sitting next to him,” someone at the party revealed.
According to Katie’s source, Wills “shot a thunderous look” at Carly and whispered: “I can’t believe you just said that” under his breath.
The royal expert, who’s a regular contributor for BBC News and Good Morning Britain, said Kate and Carly haven’t spoken a word to each other since.
While her source said the group were “in shock” following Carly’s comment
We knew they were together but it was the first time William confirmed his and Kate’s relationship in public,” they added.
Carly lived just round the corner from William and is said to have been able to sit and wave at him from her living room.
According to Katie’s source, she used to sit and knit by the window, something which reportedly “grated” on Kate.
Luckily Carly’s dig didn’t cause too much trouble in paradise for Kate and Wills – who got engaged in October 2010 and announced the news the following month.
They tied the knot at London’s Westminster Abbey 10 years after they first met, in April 2011, and now have three kids.
