Kate and Prince William’s heartbreaking reason behind family move to Windsor revealed
Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton moved their young family from London to Windsor two years ago. The royal couple relocated from the capital with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
They switched Kensington Palace for Adelaide Cottage – a four-bedroom property which is much more modest. It has been said that there were a few reasons behind the family’s move.
One of Prince William’s motivations behind the change in living arrangements is said to be down to his late grandmother Queen Elizabeth. According to royal author and journalist Robert Jobson, the late monarch played a crucial role is the prince’s decision to love.
In his new book ‘Catherine, the Princess of Wales: The Biography’, Mr Jobson claims the couple had wanted to spend as much time with the late Queen as they could as she neared the end of her life.
William ‘knew his time with his grandmother was precious and he is delighted they, as a couple, made that decision’, Mr Jobson wrote. He added: “Catherine understood that for William, as a future king, it was important for him to be geographically closer to the late Queen in her final months, when he was required to support both her and his father.
It made a real difference. They were in regular contact, seeing each other in person and speaking on the phone several times a week, bringing them even closer.
The Queen died not long after the couple’s move but it meant the family got some valuable time in Adelaide Cottage with her during her final months, Mirror reports. Mr Jobson also said that William’s decision was made in light of the death of Prince Philip, the late Queen’s husband, in April 2021.
This was reportedly also a factor when it came to prioritising their time with the late Queen, who had just lost her husband of 73 years. William and Kate have kept their Kensington Palace apartment, which are said to now be used as offices.
They are now based full-time in Windsor, with their three children attending the nearby Lambrook School.
