Kate Middleton’s cheeky response to friends who describe her as lucky to have Prince William

Before she was a Princess and the future Queen, Kate Middleton was just an undergraduate who fell in love with her friend and fellow student, Prince William. Their romance is similar to many others across the country, but with the added pressure of intense public scrutiny.

After dating for several years post-university, including a brief breakup, the couple finally settled down. In the early days of their relationship, friends reportedly told Kate how lucky she was to be with William.

However, according to Claudia Joseph, author of Kate Middleton: Princess in Waiting, Kate confidently responded with five words and a smile: “He’s lucky to have me.”

Now, the couple has been together for over two decades, married for thirteen years, and share three children: Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six. In YouGov popularity rankings, Kate ranks third, following the late Queen Elizabeth and Anne, the Princess Royal.

This ranking demonstrates what a valuable asset Kate has become for the Firm and proves that her confident statement in the early days of her relationship was indeed prophetic, reports the Mirror.

The past year has certainly tested William, Kate, and their children, with a plethora of personal trials. One of the most poignant moments came when an emotional Kate addressed the nation in March, revealing her preventive chemotherapy treatment and stepping back from the spotlight.

This announcement followed Charles’ own cancer diagnosis, burdening William with a delicate balance between his official duties and family care. Amid these tribulations, the couple reflected on happier times during an engagement interview, offering a glimpse into their beginnings.

William shared: “We obviously met at university – at St Andrew’s we were friends for over a year first and it just sort of blossomed from then on. We just spent more time with each other had a good giggle, had lots of fun, and realized we shared the same interests and had a really good time.”
