Queen Camilla is bouncing back after a severe chest infection forced her to withdraw from several events.
The 77-year-old had to miss Remembrance Day ceremonies due to illness, but she’s back on duty this week. She even mingled with film and TV stars at a glamorous reception at Buckingham Palace, where she was joined by King Charles.
During the event, Camilla had a lively conversation with Paddington star Emily Mortimer about Emily’s mother Penelope, who Camilla knows personally. “Penny sends her love,” Emily told the Queen.
When asked about her mother’s health, Emily humorously replied: “Oh, she’s still smoking as much as ever.” Camilla responded with a chuckle: “Oh she’s still on the fags?”
Emily then asked Camilla: “Oh have you quit the fags? ” to which the Queen replied: “Oh yes, I quit 20 years ago,” and Emily commended her: “Well done.”, reports the Mirror.
Despite her reputation for being a smoker and gin enthusiast, Camilla’s son Tom Parker Bowles refuted these claims last month.
In other news, King Charles expressed his deep emotion over the Queen’s groundbreaking documentary on domestic abuse. Speaking to Kerene Barefield and Naveed Chowdhary-Flatt from Love Monday Productions, who worked on the Queen’s program, Charles confessed: “I was moved to tears” after previewing it in Scotland.
He added: ‘I really am very proud.” King Charles shared a light-hearted moment with actor Damian Lewis, who is currently portraying Henry VIII in Wolf Hall: The Mirror and The Light.
Lewis humorously told the King: “At least you can claim not to be related to him!” to which the King responded: “You are fantastic in it,” It’s understood that the King and his wife have been following the series.
In conversation with renowned director Sir Ridley Scott about his latest blockbuster, Gladiator II, Camilla expressed her regret for missing the London premiere due to her recovery from a chest infection, saying: “I am so sorry I’m not coming tonight. I’d be coughing throughout it.
Scott reassured her with a comforting gesture. The Queen admitted she felt “absolutely rotten” last week but assured everyone she was “on the mend.”
Other notable attendees at the palace included British actor Henry Golding, who expressed his delight at being “back on British soil” after 17 years in LA, Emily in Paris star Lucian Laviscount, Mo Gilligan, Claudia Winkleman, India Amarteifio, who portrayed young Queen Charlotte in the Bridgestone spin-off, and director Gurinder Chadha.
Also present were the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. King Charles is the Patron of the Film and TV Charity, succeeding Queen Elizabeth II, who held the patronage since 1952.
Established in 1924, the organization has been a beacon of support for those in the screen industries, providing assistance with mental health, legal, and financial issues. Their Majesties had the pleasure of meeting a diverse group of industry professionals, including directors, actors, TV presenters, stunt performers, and costume designers at a recent event.
The Royal couple also got to see iconic costumes and props from films like Titanic (1997), Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003), and Dame Maggie Smith’s outfit from Evil Under The Sun (1982). Adding to the ambiance, The Countess of Wessex String Orchestra performed music from various TV shows, film scores, and musicals.
