Royal Family LIVE: Prince Harry and Meghan ’cause uproar at Palace’ after ‘violation
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly breached an agreement they made with the Royal Family that was put in place ahead of them stepping down as senior Royals in 2020.
The couple, who relocated to the US in 2020, made a controversial move that same year in the run up to the US election as they urged people in a video message to “vote against hate speech”.
Although they did not name the candidate they believed people should vote for, the comments were widely believed to be a criticism of Donald Trump and in support of Joe Biden.
This political involvement reportedly was a breach of the Sandringham Summit agreement, which was written up when the couple quit their royal duties in 2020. Royal aides at the time told The Sunday Times that the remarks left the Royal Family “wringing their hands” and was a “violation” of the agreement.
This year, the couple have taken a less direct approach and have instead just encouraged people to register to vote. No comments have been made by Prince Harry or Meghan Markle about either candidate in the run-up for President.
Prince William speaks about proposal to Princess Kate
Prince William has spoken of his close connection to Africa as he prepares to head to Cape Town for the fourth annual Earthshot Prize awards ceremony
William said: “Africa has always held a special place in my heart – as somewhere I found comfort as a teenager, where I proposed to my wife and most recently as the founding inspiration behind The Earthshot Prize. It was in Namibia in 2018 that I realised the power of how innovative, positive solutions to environmental problems could drive transformative change for humans and nature.
“I am proud that since its inception The Earthshot Prize has travelled to Europe, North America and Asia, spotlighting and scaling 45 groundbreaking solutions, all of which are having a tangible impact as we work as a global collective to secure the future of our planet.
