Heartbreaking: Kate Middleton ‘pushed Prince William into corner’ as she wanted ‘more commitment’ before…

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have often been praised for championing various causes while they represent the Queen. Kate, 39, has been heavily involved in children’s work, such as her acclaimed ‘5 Big Questions on the Under 5s’ survey to better understand families. William, 39, has carved out a role as a passionate environmentalist, assuming the mantle from his father, Prince Charles and late grandfather, Prince Philip.

The Duke’s latest climate project is the Earthshot Prize he launched last year to recognise innovative solutions to environmental problems over the coming decade.

The first of the gongs are to be handed out on Sunday evening at London’s Alexandra Palace.
The ceremony, hosted by Dermot O’Leary and Clara Amfo, will be broadcast live on BBC One.

There will be musical performances from the likes of Coldplay and Ed Sheeran, while celebrities, including Kate, will hand out the awards.
The Duchess of Cambridge celebrated her 10th wedding anniversary with William in April of this year.

The pair tied the knot at Westminster Abbey in 2011 in a ceremony watched by millions of people around the world.
While the Cambridges might appear every inch the perfect match today, their relationship was put under strain when William joined the Armed Forces in 2006.

The following year the couple split as William was unsure if he could manage his relationship with Kate alongside his military career.
Royal author Katie Nicholl claimed that Kate had wanted William to show more devotion to their partnership.

Speaking for the 2011 documentary, ‘William and Kate Into the Future’, she said: “I think Kate pushed him into a corner.

“I think she wanted some more commitment. William was very hard at work at the military, very busy.

“He had exams, training. He was very involved with his military commitments.

“And I think at the same time it had become increasingly difficult for them to spend time together.

“William would spend Monday to Friday at the barracks in Bovington, so his time was completely taken up with military commitments.
At the weekends he ended up staying up with his friends, his new Army pals.

“He didn’t want to go back to London every weekend.”
William and Kate eventually had three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

William may be a family man today, but according to Andrew Morton, the biographer of his late mother Princess Diana, he once commanded the attention of a number of women.

Speaking to the documentary about William and Kate’s split, Mr Morton said the Duke “thought he could do better”.
He added: “As a prince you walk into a room and get used to the fact that every single woman in the room is looking at you.

Catherine wanted more commitment from him. He wouldn’t give it.”
