Kensington Palace was forced to act as Meghan and Kate Middleton threatened with…
Vile sexist comments, racist slurs and personal attacks against the Duchess of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge are worryingly becoming a norm on social media. They have even been threatened with violence. The increasing number of insults forced Kensington Palace to intervene, with the palace’s staff spending hours online “deleting and reporting” comments and posts, HELLO! revealed. A source told the magazine: “The Palace has always monitored comments but it’s a hugely time-consuming thing.
Over the course of last year, with hundreds of thousands of comments, there were two or three that were violent threats

“They can block certain words, but some of it is quite serious.
“Over the course of last year, with hundreds of thousands of comments, there were two or three that were violent threats.
“You can delete and report and block people and the police have options around particular people.
“It’s something you have to manage because there’s no other way to control it.
While the slurs can’t be addressed directly to Meghan and Kate because they don’t have individual public social media accounts, users willing to unleash their fury on the duchesses can find other channels.
A source said: “A lot of hours are being spent reviewing old material and moderating comments under posts.”
Offensive comments can also be found under news articles and news outlets’ social media.
To better tackle this wave of abuse, Kensington Palace has turned to Instagram, which has a whole team dedicated to helping high profile followers and accounts coping with unpleasant and abusive comments.
Within the past months, Meghan has been attacked for touching her baby bump “too much”, wearing tight dresses “to get attention” or walking “strangely”.
Some social media users on Twitter went as far as claiming Meghan’s pregnancy is “fake”.
Express.co.uk has previously revealed vile trolls are spreading claims Meghan’s pregnancy is “fake”.
Writing alongside the hashtag #Megxit, one person wrote: “Well, I have 2 college degrees and 1 master degree. I also speak 3 languages.
“I’m definitely ‘educated’ and I still think everything about Meghan is fake, including her pregnancy.”
Another one wrote: “Why is #MeghanMarkle never wearing tights? It’s Winter in England
Tights don’t go with the moonbump? Would squish the pillow? #megxit.”
On the other hand, Kate has been accused of being “boring” and “lazy”, and the number of attacks against the Duchess of Cambridge increased as the alleged feud between Kate and Meghan was raging.
One person wrote on Twitter: “I only got one thing to say, no matter what you think, Kate will never be on Meghan’s level, all that lazy consort did was marry a Prince, she don’t know about working, and connecting with others, don’t disrespect Meghan like that.”
But Meghan and Kate are not the only victims of these new vile trends.
Some of their fans have also been targeted as a consequence of the support they pledged to the duchesses.
The Kensington Palace source added: “It follows a Kate vs Meghan narrative and some of the worst stuff is between Kate fans and Meghan fans.
“Arguments about who looks more appropriate, for example, that turn into personal attacks on other users.
“It’s creating a supercharged atmosphere and everyone can join in, but what are the consequences of this?”
One social media user has recently urged another one to “drink bleach” during a heated argument regarding Meghan and Kate.
Kate and Meghan have been reportedly entwined in a feud over the past months.
Anonymous royal insiders have claimed Kate scolded Meghan for being rude to members of her staff.
Others said the Duchess of Cambridge was left “in tears” during a particularly difficult dress rehearsal session with Princess Charlotte ahead of Meghan and Harry’s wedding on May 19.
Kensington Palace has refused to comment on the rift, but said the argument over the treatment of Kate’s staff “never happened”.
Following the increasing number of verbal abuse and threats against the duchesses, HELLO! has launched a campaign called “#HelloToKindness” which champions positivity online.
