Kate Middleton ‘mortified’ by dad’s two-word remark in embarrassing moment with…

The Princess of Wales, Catherine Middleton, is a known lover of tennis and a familiar face in the Royal box at Wimbledon.

And she once confessed to being completely ‘mortified’ by an offhand remark made by her father, Michael Middleton, at the renowned tournament.

It remains uncertain if Kate will be able to attend this year due to her ongoing treatment for cancer. Despite her recent appearance at Trooping the Colour, event coordinators have voiced their uncertainty about her presence at the upcoming games.

However, spectators can likely count on seeing other members of Kate’s family, including parents Carole and Michael and sister Pippa. The Middleton clan has frequently been sighted at past Wimbledon matches.

As remembered by Kate in the 2017 BBC documentary Our Wimbledon hosted by Sue Barker, she had once suffered an embarrassing moment thanks to her father’s gaffe.

She recalled: “My father is not going to appreciate this, but we were walking past Tim Henman and we had just seen [Pete] Sampras play. My dad said very coolly: ‘Hi Pete’. I was mortified!”

Since 2016, the Princess has played patron of the All England Club, honoring Wimbledon champions with their trophies each year. Though Princess Kate’s attendance is still uncertain, the Chairwoman of the All England Club Debbie Jevans assures us that they are “staying flexible” regarding the traditional trophy presentation potentially being conducted by someone else this year.

Debbie revealed to Telegraph Sport: “We’re hopeful that the Princess of Wales will be able to present the trophies as the Club’s patron, but her health and recovery is the priority. We don’t know what we don’t know. All we’ve said is that we’ll work with her and give her as much flexibility as possible.”

She added: “I don’t know who would present the trophies as an alternative – that’s something to consider nearer the time if necessary. We’re staying flexible. When we hear, we’ll then think about what’s the right thing to do.

Kate, a well-known tennis enthusiast, cherishes Wimbledon as one of her most beloved yearly events to attend with her kids. In 2023, Kate was spotted at the Wimbledon final with Prince George and Princess Charlotte, although Prince Louis had to stay behind.

She shared with officials: “Louis was very upset he wasn’t coming today!”

The Royal has often expressed her passion for tennis, saying: “I have watched Wimbledon, that was very much part of my growing up. It’s such a quintessential part of the English summer, and I think it really inspires youngsters, myself, it inspired me when I was younger to get involved in the game. It hasn’t changed either, I think that’s what’s so wonderful.”
