Prince William’s second thoughts over Kate Middleton result in awkward snub

Kate Middleton had a feeling that something was wrong with Prince William just before he decided to end their relationship to “enjoy his youth”.

Today, the pair are the epitome of devotion, having been happily married for 13 years and raising three children together. However, their path to finally settling down together was long and at times turbulent.

Kate and William first met as teenagers at school, where they started off as friends who shared common interests. Their friendship blossomed into romance while studying at St Andrew’s University in Edinburgh, Scotland, where they shared a student house with two other pals.

Among their fellow students, it was an “open secret” that they were dating. They were frequently seen shopping in supermarkets and going on bike rides together.

After their graduation ceremony in 2005, William introduced Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, to the Queen, which was perceived as a sign of the seriousness of their relationship. Kate lived in Chelsea while dating William after university.

The Prince of Wales was undergoing a year of military training at Sandhurst, but the couple managed to meet every Friday. The Middletons were even invited to his military graduation in 2006, sparking rumors of an impending Royal engagement.

However, it appears that behind the scenes, Prince William was having second thoughts. In his new book, Catherine, the Princess of Wales: The Biography, Robert Jobson revealed that the young couple seemed to want different things.

Kate was prepared to wait for William’s proposal, regardless of how long it took, but he was unsure if the relationship was right for him. Jobson wrote: “Speculation about a royal marriage began to approach fever pitch, but the Prince was wary of committing himself. It might well be a case of the right girl at the wrong time, he feared.”

By the end of 2006, signs that William was considering ending the relationship emerged when he unexpectedly canceled plans to attend a New Year’s event in Dundee which had been arranged by the Middletons. Jobson wrote: “She sensed something was wrong. It certainly wasn’t helping that newspapers were confidently predicting a royal engagement.”

Following this, William reportedly called Kate to suggest they part ways. “He told her they both needed ‘a bit of space’ to ‘find our own way’, and he was unable to promise her marriage. In an emotionally charged 30-minute conversation, they both acknowledged they were on ‘different pages’,” Jobson claimed.

Kate didn’t let the end of her relationship with William bring her down and instead went to Dublin with her mother Carole. She then went on a girls’ trip to Ibiza with a friend, where they reportedly partied until dawn.

Kate was even spotted dating a new man, Sir Henry Ropner. It appeared that seeing his ex-girlfriend enjoying herself and appearing “more vibrant and sociable” than ever made William realize what he’d lost. At a party for a mutual friend, their chemistry was reportedly palpable, leading to their reunion.
