Kate Middleton’s ‘awkward’ meeting with brother’s wife pours doubt on Meghan Markle claim
Meghan Markle notably recounted the ‘jarring’ moment she first met her future sister-in-law, the Princess of Wales, in her contentious Netflix series.
In the explosive documentary with Prince Harry, Meghan shared that her initial introduction to Kate occurred when she and Prince William visited the Sussexes’ home for dinner. Meghan was barefoot and wearing ripped jeans at the time. She explained that she has always been ‘a hugger,’ but didn’t realize that this was ‘jarring’ for Brits.
However, a new memoir penned by Kate’s brother James Middleton tells a different tale about his future wife Alizee’s similarly casual introduction to his older sister.
James encountered Alizee in the summer of 2018 due to a chance meeting involving his pet dog Ella, who has since sadly passed away. After their unexpected initial encounter, the two began dating after kindling a romance.
In his new memoir titled Meet Ella: The Dog Who Saved My Life, James recounts the first time he introduced his then-girlfriend to Kate, William, and his nephew and niece Prince George and Princess Charlotte in an unexpected moment. James reveals that he and Alizee attended a wedding near the Middleton family home in Berkshire. They decided to spend the night there after the event, unaware that William, Kate, and their children were also staying overnight.
He only discovered this the next morning when he heard the children’s laughter. He left Alizee sleeping while he went downstairs to greet the family and make tea for his girlfriend.
He shares: “I’m about to take a cup up to Alizee when she appears at the kitchen door. She has just got out of bed, her hair still tousled, and she is wearing one of my shirts. In situations like this, Alizee is wonderfully French.”
“She does not panic or rush upstairs to get dressed. Instead, she just greets everyone warmly as if it’s not remotely unusual to be meeting her boyfriend’s sister and brother-in-law for the first time wearing only an oversized man’s shirt.
James goes on to describe how there was no awkwardness. He and Alizee spent the day with his parents, sister, brother-in-law, and nieces and nephews. He received a “special squeeze” from his sister, who whispered in his ear: “She’s just great.”
The revelation follows Prince Harry’s account of the first meeting between Meghan and Kate in his explosive memoir, Spare. According to Harry, the initial encounter seemed to go smoothly, with Meghan cooking and the two women engaging in conversation about Wimbledon and the TV show Suits.
However, Harry noted a striking contrast between the two women, which was evident in their attire.
