Meghan Markle made her feelings clear about the UK amid Harry’s return to London

Meghan Markle made her feelings clear about the UK ahead of the Duke of Sussex’s attendance at the WellChild Awards.

Prince Harry will arrive in London today to attend the 2024 WellChild awards but it was his solo appearance at last year’s event that demonstrated his wife’s reluctance to return to the UK.

The Duke of Sussex made multiple trips to the UK on his own throughout 2023 with Meghan choosing to stay in the US
The Duchess of Sussex has not returned to the UK since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022.

In 2023, Harry announced that he would be undertaking an engagement at the WellChild Awards in London on September 7 before heading to Germany to attend the Invictus Games in Düsseldorf which began on September 9.

As Meghan Markle had already confirmed that she would be joining her husband in Germany, the closeness of the two engagements set up an ideal return to the UK for the duchess before making the short trip to Düsseldorf.

However, Meghan chose to instead travel straight to Germany on her own rather than accompany Harry to the UK ahead of the Invictus Games.
It was a clear indication that the Duchess of Sussex did not want to return to the UK despite the logistics of the engagements providing an easy route to spend a couple of days in England, a country where she lived for years.

As Harry returns to the country of his birth today, it is clear that Meghan Markle will not be joining him.
This will be Harry’s fourth trip to the UK in 2024 and all of them have been on his own.

In July this year, Harry told ITV that he would not be bringing Meghan back to the UK due to fears over her safety.
He said: “It’s still dangerous, and all it takes is one lone actor…whether it’s a knife or acid, whatever it is, and these are things that are of genuine concern for me.

It’s one of the reasons why I won’t bring my wife back to this country.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are separating their professional lives with more solo engagements and projects undertaken by both of them in favour of joint ventures.

We may not see Meghan in the UK for years with a potential return date being in 2027 when Prince Harry’s Invictus Games will take place in Birmingham.

The Duchess of Sussex has accompanied Harry to every Invictus Games since they have been married but the couple’s current feelings around security fears may mean her absence extends even further if the situation remains as it is.
