Kensington Palace was left furious over Princess Kate’s claims

Inaccurate claims that Princess Kate was in a “coma” are thought to have left Kensington Palace furious.

The Princess of Wales underwent “planned abdominal surgery” on January 16, and spent a further 13 days in The London Clinic before returning home to Adelaide Cottage.

Despite Kate choosing not to release private details about the surgery, a Spanish programme claimed to have insider information about the princess’s “serious health complications.

The false information regarding the Princess of Wales’s health went viral after being discussed on the programme, which is said to have infuriated the Palace.

The claims were made on the show Fiesta, which has 900,000 viewers on average.
The unsubstantiated rumours that the princess was in a coma came the day before Kate was discharged from hospital.
The host, Concha Calleja, claimed the princess’s life “was in great danger” after the operation.

She said she had “spoken to an aide from the Royal Household in a completely off-the-record manner”, however, the Palace has categorically denied this ever happened.

Calleja added: “The doctors had to take drastic decisions at that moment because of the complications that arose.
“The decision was to put her in an induced coma. They had to intubate her.

“There were serious complications that they didn’t expect because the operation went well, but the postoperative period didn’t go so well.”

Kensington Palace has vigorously denied these claims made on Spanish television.

A Palace source told The Times: “It’s total nonsense. No attempt was made by that journalist to fact-check anything that she said with anyone in the household.
“It’s fundamentally, totally made-up, and I’ll use polite English here: it’s absolutely not the case.”

It comes as Princess Kate is recuperating at home at Adelaide Cottage surrounded by her husband, Prince William, and her three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five.

Kate’s mother Carole Middleton, who celebrated her 69th birthday on Wednesday, also lives in Berkshire so will be nearby to help her daughter recover.
