Rose Hanbury’s Husband Stands Revealed Amid Prince William Affair Rumors
There are a lot of royal rumors swirling up again after Kate Middleton’s abdominal surgery and her alleged mysterious disappearance. One of them includes Prince William’s alleged affair with Rose Hanbury. Many fans who are digging up this case might be wondering if Rose Hanbury’s husband is still in the picture in their family.
Hanbury, whose full name is Sarah Rose Cholmondeley, is the Marchioness of Cholmondeley and wife of someone who has a long history with the Royals. Hanbury married her husband at Chelsea Town Hall in London on June 24, 2009—just two days after announcing their engagement. The couple went on to have three children: twin sons Alexander Hugh George Cholmondeley and Oliver Timothy George Cholmondeley, and daughter Lady Iris Marina Aline Cholmondeley.
The Cholmondeley’s were in close circles with the Royal Family. In 2019, rumors emerged of a falling out between Kate Middleton and Rose Hanbury. What ensued was a big scandal where the media alleged that Rose Hanbury had an affair with Prince William. These rumors were proven to be false, but the rumors seem to be making the rounds again.
Here’s who Rose Hanbury’s husband is and their relationship with the Princess and Prince of Wales.
Who is Rose Hanbury’s husband?
David Cholmondeley (pronounced Chumley), 7th Marquess of Cholmondeley, is Rose Hanbury’s husband. A Marquess (and his wife, a Marchioness) holds the fourth most senior rank in the British nobility (behind King/Queen, Prince/Princess, and Duke/Duchess). The Cholmondeleys are particularly notable, however, as they are hereditary co-holders of the office of Lord Great Chamberlain.
David was named King Charles’ Lord-in-Waiting meanwhile their son, Oliver, was named as one of the king’s pages, who was tasked with holding the robes of the king, alongside Prince George on Coronation Day. The couple also share another son, Alexander—Oliver’s twin—and daughter Iris. Not only is Rose connected to the royal family through her friendship with Kate, but her grandmother, Lady Elizabeth Lambert, was a bridesmaid at Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s wedding in November 1947.
He continued: “But, I thought it was really important [to mention], even if a rumor is a rumor. And I really don’t see proof that there is more to this than just a tittle-tattle, you know.”
Did Prince William cheat on Kate Middleton with Rose Hanbury?
Prince William and Rose Hanbury’s affair rumors were put to rest after Kensington Palace responded to media reports. In March 2019, rumors swirled that Prince William, a close friend of the Marquess and Marchioness, had cheated on his wife, Kate Middleton, with Hanbury, who had an alleged fallout with Middleton. There were also rumors that Hanbury’s daughter, Iris, is actually William’s child, though those claims seem to be unfounded. While neither William nor Hanbury have ever addressed the rumors, royal expert Omid Scobie told Entertainment Tonight in 2023 that he considered writing more about the drama in his royal biography, Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival , however, as the affair allegations were never confirmed. “I was very careful in the book to really focus on this, as the allegations against William, Kate’s and their fallout with Rose Hanbury,” Scobie said. “For legal reasons, there are so many things that one can’t go into.”
In Touch published a now-deleted report of Prince William having an affair with Rose Hanbury while Kate Middleton was pregnant with their third child.
A source told the site that Kate “immediately confronted” William, who “just laughed it off saying there was nothing to it.”
The site also claimed that Kate ordered William to stop seeing the Cholmondeleys. “Kate sees their friendship in an entirely different light now,” In Touch’s source says, adding that her trust in William has wavered. “They come across as a perfect couple who can do no wrong,” an insider told the site. “But the reality is, most couples have their issues and William and Kate are no different.
In Touch also reported that the couple wouldn’t split but the situation “has rocked the palace and their marriage.”
The Daily Beast reported that In Touch’s reports are clearly not true. Courtiers told the site that the story “was totally wrong and false.”
The site reported that at least one British publication was served with legal warnings due to the rumors. The letter from law firm Harbotte and Lewis states that “in addition to being false and highly damaging, the publication of false speculation in respect of our clients’ private life also constitutes a breach of his privacy pursuant to Article 8 of the European Convention to Human Rights.”
Rumors of William and Hanbury’s affair resurfaced in March 2024 after Kate posted an Instagram photo without her wedding ring. The picture, which was taken by William and posted for Mother’s Day on the Prince and Princess of Wales’ official Instagram account, showed Kate with her and William’s three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. The post was also the first photo of Kate since her abdominal surgery in January 2024. “Thank you for your kind wishes and continued support over the last two months. Wishing everyone a Happy Mother’s Day. C,” Kate captioned the photo.
What happened to Kate Middleton?
Kensington Palace announced that Kate Middleton had a “planned abdominal surgery” at The London Clinic on January 16, 2024. “The surgery was successful, and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery,” the statement said. “Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.”
She has been seen on multiple occasions—with her mother who was driving her to appointments, and in a car with Prince William. “The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate,” the palace said in January. “She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private,” the statement continued. “Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share.”
“The Princess of Wales wishes to apologise to all those concerned for the fact that she has to postpone her upcoming engagements. She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible,” they added. However, many netizens came up with many conspiracy theories regarding where she is, and how she’s really doing when she’s away from the public eye.
